Readiness to construct the nuclear power plant
Readiness to begin construction must be achieved well before the nuclear power plant construction license is granted to us.
A key prerequisite for starting construction is that the technical design is sufficiently advanced. This involves both the basic design of the nuclear power plant and the preliminary safety analysis report (PSAR), which is central when applying for a construction license. Equally important is the readiness of the supply chain: organizations involved in the construction must be capable of implementing the plans and supervising the implementation according to those plans.
In addition, the preparations of the project site must be ready for the construction of the nuclear power plant. This means that the necessary infrastructure and auxiliary buildings have been built and the nuclear power plant construction site has been established. In addition, there must be effective practices related to occupational safety, environmental impact management and, for example, construction supervision in place at the project site.
The readiness of Pyhäjoki and the neighboring municipalities is also important. We cooperate with the local actors in order to improve their capabilities to prepare for changes brought about by the project, including the increased number of residents and the volume of services needed, but also to help them benefit from the opportunities brought by the project.

Fennovoima prepares for construction of the nuclear power plant
The Hanhikivi 1 project parties must achieve readiness to begin construction well before the nuclear power plant construction license is granted to us so that the plant construction work can commence promptly.
Design progress
The basic design of the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant has progressed well. Now we focus on ensuring the faultlessness and integrity of the design and finalizing the basic design documentation.
Safety culture in the Hanhikivi 1 project area
Fennovoima is constantly working to develop the safety culture of the Hanhikivi 1 project area in close cooperation with RAOS Project and Titan-2. The shared goal is a nuclear power plant that is safe and functional in all respects.
Towards building the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant
Fennovoima's Hanhikivi 1 plant's basic design and its review are steaming ahead, and we do not expect any significant changes to the plant's concept. In addition to design work, we are preparing for the approaching construction phase.
